Cocktail Journal July 2017
Summer where are you?
Is it really August already? Nowhere near enough sunny weather for me. It hasn’t felt like a glorious summer at all. August we are counting on you to deliver before the C word starts being mentioned!
July’s cocktail is another of my own creations. I present the Apple Delight.
- 20ml of white rum
- 50ml elderflower cordial
- Apple juice
- Thin slices of apple to garnish
- Mix the rum and cordial together
- Pour into a cocktail glass. Top up with apple juice
Very easy to make and lovely to drink. Perfect for the summer. This could definitely be a quick go to cocktail.
July means birthday to me. Having a summer birthday is great but the damn British weather cares for nobody. My planned picnic had to be ditched for indoor chats with my friends. In the afternoon we went to the Rail House Cafe in Victoria. This is the sister venue to the Riding House Cafe I have been to before near Oxford Circus.
The place is really nice. It was very rustic with unique (questionable) light decorations. Exactly what I was expecting and coupled with eggs benedict, it was a perfect choice.
Being a tourist in Westminster
Exploring London continued at a pace in July. After the London Duck Tour, I wanted to explore more of the locations that I have always passed but never been to. On one adventurous Saturday, I tackled two landmarks.
House of Parliament
I never thought I would have been interested in touring the Houses of Parliament but I was completely blown away by the experience. Using the audio guide I discovered so many interesting facts about a place we see and hear about so often. The public can view debates for free during weekdays when Parliament is in session. A full post will follow soon.
I’m in disbelief that I had never visited the Abbey before. Learning about the kings, queens and famous people buried there opened my eyes to what an important place it is. There are also many memorials to people who have shaped Britain in different ways through the centuries. The Coronation Chair is a real highlight. A full post will follow soon.
St James’s Park.
One Saturday I paid a visit to one of my favourite Royal Parks. I captured photos of the statues around the park, memorials along the Mall and Horse Guards. The views you get from the Blue Bridge are wonderful. A full post will follow soon.
New food recipes
July was due to be the first month I posted recipes from a particular country. However one of my attempts at a recipe did not turn out perfectly. Another one did but I concluded that I wanted to have at least two recipes to write about that turned out well. In order to ensure this, I need to have more than one attempt at a recipe before I know that I can write about it. This will be ready for August.
What was the last touristy thing you did?
No need for postcards, feel free to leave a comment…
