Cocktail Journal June 2017
Welcome to June’s Cocktail Journal. It has been a bit of an indifferent month for various reasons. I have done some lovely things but what I have not done well at is keeping to my blogging schedule. Two posts a week hasn’t been much of a stretch over the past few months but in June I just haven’t been at it. So I will be putting this right starting with this post.
In the previous posts in this series I have shown the cocktail recipe last, but from now on I will be putting it first because essentially that is what the title says. So here you go:
- A small single bar of dark chocolate
- 2 table spoons of coco powder
- One orange
- 20ml of white rum
- Melt the dark chocolate, coco powder, a little orange zest and half the juice of the orange on a slow gentle heat. Once mixed together leave to one side to cool.
- Shake together the chocolate and rum with a single ice cube
- Pour into a cocktail glass and serve
This recipe is my own creation. Straight forward to make and yummy to taste, although I think it’s one for a unique occasion.

I will get to the reflections I have had this month about my blog in a moment but first I wanted to quickly say what this series will continue to be about in the future. As already said I’ll put the cocktail first. Looking back on the older posts in this series I was writing about all the weird and wonderful things I have been up to in the month just past. In some ways that’s okay but I what I really should be using this series for is to talk about my journey as a blogger. So what this means is that I will be focusing these posts around what work and ideas I have for my blog. So without further ado…
This incredible event took place earlier this month. If you have not read my review of it please please give it a read, you may find it inspiring. To cut a long story short I met incredible people, ate brilliant food and was inspired to improve my work in my own unique way.
Many of the actions I took from the event are to:
- Continue to improve my Instagram feed
- Use most appropriate social media to show my work
- Define my blog’s purpose and my audience
- Link my content about food, travel and lifestyle.
In regards to linking the content of my categories better, I had a brainwave. Each month pick dishes from a different country to cook. This relates to travel, it gets me exploring and I get to be an adventurous cook! What more could you ask for? I think this will be a very exciting addition to my food content. Stay tuned.
Stick to the schedule
I plan, I plan and I plan. So sticking to a blog schedule is a piece of cake. Well, life doesn’t work like that. In the week leading up to Blogtacular, I was so busy. I was doing something most evenings and I think that week without time to write it just completely threw my schedule out of the window. Thankfully I’ve got my focus back right at the end of the month to manage to have seven posts published but I don’t want to be in the same position again. Make sure I save time to write!
The Night Sky
As you may or may not know I love Astronomy. This year I have been writing Night Sky posts as a way of writing about this subject. However as much as I enjoyed doing it, I have ultimately decided that it doesn’t fit with the overall theme of my blog. This passion is something I must pursue on a personal level. The Astronomy section will vanish from my blog at the end of July.
Brilliant news. During this month I was approached to write a review for the first time. After hearing every blogger say that they have been asked to do reviews for so many different things I was starting to think that my little blog was getting left out. But no more! My review of the London Duck tour will be published very soon. First baby steps have been taken, yippy!
Hope you have had a good June.
