Cocktail Journal February 2017
Isn’t 2017 just flying by?
The weather has been mild and freezing throughout the month. Will the weather just make up its mind!
At least with the end of February, it means that spring is closing in. Thoughts will start to turn towards what to do with the warmer weather. But all of that is to come, what about what has just been?
Someone has the hump
February has been pretty good overall. Unfortunately, I must mention one particular thing I saw on the news that was Donald Trump’s impromptu press conference where he attacked the media. My TV was one BBC News (yep that’s my channel) and whilst I was cooking I sat down and started watching because it was live. I was captivated because of just how rude and obnoxious he was being. I was thinking how far is he going to take this. He wouldn’t let most of the journalists finish asking their questions. Then when the BBC journalist spoke Trump was immediately dismissive of him and I was glad when our guy came back at him. And Trump said that he was loving this and having a good time! I needed a cocktail after that.
Snowdrops and Jupiter
Moving on, I looked at snowdrop flowers with one of my best friends that were beautiful. For the first time in a while, I did a bit of clothes shopping to freshen up my wardrobe. A smart pair of winter shoes, two jeans, two smart trousers, a jumper and hoodie were all good buys. No more clothes buying for a while though maybe.
The Astronomy lecture this month was about the Juno mission to Jupiter that arrived in 2016. That was such a cool talk. Seeing Jupiter in a completely new way was inspiring. Check out the mission, you can even nominate areas of Jupiter for Juno to photograph. Amateur astrophotographers can render the photos taken, which is so cool. The results are amazing.
Back to the cinema
I don’t go to the cinema very often anymore, the only film I saw recently was Rogue One just before Christmas. But in February I went to the cinema twice in one week! I was fancied watching the Lego Batman Movie. I wondered whether it would be fun and after hearing some good reviews about it I thought it was worth a try. It was okay, quite funny in places. The film wasn’t taking itself too seriously, it took the piss out of previous Batman’s throughout which was funny.
The other film I saw was La La Land. Oh my days I love this film! Actually, let me write it this way I LOVE THIS FILM!!!! I will write more about this film in another post soon but now I’ll add that La La Land is one of the best films I’ve seen in years. Seeing this film is totally the slice of joy we all need to see with the sort of rubbish we are seeing from Trump that I wrote earlier.
So the cocktail to round off February with is my own creation I am calling a Raspberry Sweetener.
- ¾ Black raspberry liqueur
- ¾ Vodka
- Raspberry cordial to top up
- Raspberries to garnish
Just mix together and you have a sweet cocktail to cheer you up and maybe leave you as red as the cocktail. Cheers to February 2017! But not to our ‘friend’ across the Atlantic!
How’s your February been?
Have you seen La La Land I loved it too?
Any cocktails you suggest I try for March?
No need for cocktails, feel free to leave a comment…
